Rafael Pagatini (Caxias do Sul – RS, 1985) is an artist, researcher and assistant professor at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, Brazil. Pagatini is currently a PhD candidate in Visual Arts at the State University of Campinas, São Paulo. He has been awarded a grant by the Brazilian initiative CAPES as a guest researcher at the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Germany, where he researched under the supervision of Dr. Friedrich Weltzien between October 2020 and April 2021. In his production and research, he makes use of printing processes to pose a critical perspective on contemporary society through the investigation of the relationship between art and memory. He has held individual and collective exhibitions in Brazil and abroad: Shiva Gallery, New York (2020), European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, Berlin (2019); Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei, Leipzig (2019); Columbia University, New York (2018); 20th Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil, São Paulo (2017); Paço das Artes, São Paulo (2016); Rumos Itaú Cultural, São Paulo (2013). His work is part of distinct collections, like: Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR), Itaú Cultural, Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, and Iberê Camargo Foundation, among others. He has been granted important artistic awards, such as: Energisa Artes Visuais Award, Bolsa Estímulo a Produção em Artes Visuais (FUNARTE), Bolsa Iberê Camargo – Ateliê de Gravura, and V Prêmio Açorianos de Artes Plásticas.
