Call for Papers, No. 42, April 2027

11.03.2026

The Editorial Board of AM Journal of Art and Media Studies invites all potential contributors to send their papers for issue No. 42/April 2027 with the main theme “Art, Technology, and Machine Intelligence: Creative Practices in the 21st Century.”

The guest editors for this issue are Inesh Kdyrova (Pavlo Chubynsky Academy of Arts, Ukraine) and Dilya Duiyessinova (Kulyash Bayseyitova Kazakh National University of Art, Republic of Kazakhstan).

Contemporary artistic and media practices are increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative technologies, and complex digital systems. These technological transformations challenge established notions of creativity, authorship, aesthetics, and cultural production, while simultaneously opening new spaces for experimentation, collaboration, and critical reflection.

This special issue aims to bring together interdisciplinary research exploring how intelligent technologies are transforming artistic creation, media environments, and cultural meaning. Particular attention will be given to theoretical, empirical, and practice-based perspectives that examine the aesthetic, philosophical, cultural, and ethical implications of AI-driven and algorithmic creative practices.

We invite original research articles, theoretical studies, and critical essays that address (but are not limited to) the following topics:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine-assisted creativity
  • Generative art, algorithmic aesthetics, and computational design
  • Human–machine collaboration in artistic and media practices
  • Digital, post-digital, and hybrid art forms
  • Authorship, originality, and creativity in the age of algorithms
  • Ethical, philosophical, and cultural implications of intelligent technologies in art
  • AI, machine learning, and creative labor
  • Intelligent systems in visual art, music, literature, performance, and media
  • Critical perspectives on automation, creativity, and cultural production

The special issue welcomes interdisciplinary contributions from fields including art studies, media and communication studies, cultural studies, philosophy, digital humanities, design, computer science (with a cultural or artistic focus), and related disciplines.

Potential contributors are invited to submit their full-text proposals, 3,000–5,000 words in length, formatted according to the Journal’s stylistic guidelines, by January 10, 2027, at the latest.

AM Journal is organized into four sections: Main Theme, Beyond the Main Theme, Artist Portfolio, and Book Reviews. Only the first section, which is also the central one, is predefined by the issue’s main theme.

Stylistic Guidelines can be found here.

Please note: Following the journal categorization of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia, only original scholarly articles that adhere to the highest academic standards are accepted for submission. Upon submission, the Editorial Team performs an initial screening and selection of manuscripts, then forwards the selected submissions for double-blind peer review. The ultimate decision regarding the acceptance of a manuscript is contingent upon the outcomes of the peer review process.

The issue is scheduled for publication in April 2027.

Please send your full-text submissions and queries (if any) by email to both the issue editor Dr. Inesh Kdyrova (kdirova_inesh@ujis.in.ua) and the Journal email address: amjournal@outlook.com.

We look forward to receiving your contributions and to fostering a critical dialogue on the evolving relationship between art, technology, and machine intelligence in contemporary culture.
