Call for Papers, No. 40, September 2026

05.09.2025

The Editorial Board of AM Journal of Art and Media Studies invites all potential contributors to send their papers for issue No. 40/September 2026 with the central theme Aesthetics Between China and Post-Yugoslav states in the context of globalization.

The guest editors for this issue are Dr. Zhang Chenghua (South China Normal University, China) and Dr. Fu Qilin (Sichuan University, China).

Globalization, coupled with breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and digital communication technologies, has dramatically expanded the horizons for cross-cultural exchange, enabling unprecedented connectivity across geographical and linguistic boundaries. Yet, translating these possibilities into authentic, meaningful engagement remains a nuanced endeavor – particularly for China and the post-Yugoslav states. Unlike theoretical deductions, the practical work of interpreting and narrating another nation's aesthetic story is fraught with challenges, rooted in layered historical contexts, intricate cultural specificities, and divergent epistemological frameworks that influence how art, literature, and philosophy are perceived and valued. Moreover, we often place significant emphasis on the uniqueness inherent to each nation. However, preserving uniqueness does not demand isolation; rather, it is through critical, reciprocal dialogue with diverse aesthetic systems that a tradition retains its vitality and evolves. Since the 21st century, exchanges between China and countries such as Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia have deepened mutual understanding while enriching each other's aesthetic landscapes.

This issue aims to advance these dialogues through a comparative approach, retracing the histories of cross-national aesthetic exchanges, exploring the aesthetic evolutions of each nation, and mapping viable pathways for dialogue amid globalization. We welcome original contributions that engage with the theme from comparative, historical, or interdisciplinary perspectives. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • new developments in contemporary Chinese aesthetics;
  • emerging trends in contemporary aesthetics of post-Yugoslav states;
  • comparative studies of Chinese and former Yugoslav/post-Yugoslav states’ aesthetics;
  • exchanges in Aesthetics Between China and the Former Yugoslavia/Post-Yugoslav States;
  • other topics related to contemporary aesthetics (art, media, literature, philosophy, etc.).
