Call for Papers, No. 36, April 2025
The Editorial Board of the AM Journal of Art and Media Studies invites all potential contributors to submit their papers for issue No. 36/April 2025 with the theme Critical Theory, Media, and Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.
Guest editors for this issue are Dr. Luka Bešlagić (Faculty of Media and Communications, Serbia) and Dr. Simona Žikić (Faculty of Media and Communications, Serbia; Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade, Serbia).
The latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) have dramatically transformed and redefined today’s landscape of communication, media, art, and education. Within this context, critical theory provides an apt methodological framework for analyzing and understanding such complexities and new societal and cultural challenges imposed by current technological innovations. Having in mind recent changes of the role of critical theory in comparison to its heyday during the 20th century, this issue of AM: Journal of Art and Media Studies aims to explore novel interdisciplinary theoretical modes in social sciences and humanities (new theories, concepts, and critical vocabularies) pertinent for the analysis of AI and its widespread influence.
Contributions from disciplines and fields such as communication studies, media and art theory, philosophy, critical theory, cultural studies, psychology, pedagogy, and political studies are welcome. In particular, we invite scholars to contribute with original research and theoretical essays that address the following themes:
- critical theory in the post-digital age;
- philosophy of technologies;
- historical reading of technological advancements in the context of digital humanities;
- contemporary art/media practices and technological innovations;
- transformation in modes of communication;
- impact of AI on pedagogy, education, and learning;
- critical interpretation of digital literacy;
- politics of identity and AI;
- ethical issues (e.g. equity and knowledge access) and AI.
Acknowledging such topics, within the broader context of contemporary critical theory, this special issue seeks to offer new perspectives on fundamental questions that emerged with the advent of a transformative yet controversial phenomenon of AI.
Potential contributors are invited to submit their full-text proposals of 3,000–5,000 words, formatted according to the Journal's stylistic guidelines, by January 31, 2025, at the latest.
